The state of Uttarakhand was formed on November 9, 2000, and before that, it was a part of Uttar Pradesh. It has a total area of 53,483 sq. km. The previous name of Uttarakhand was Uttaranchal. Uttarakhand is divided into two regions, which are Garhwal and Kumaon. There are 13 districts in Uttarakhand, of which 7 are in the Garhwal region and the other 6 are in the Kumaon region.
Out of which, the biggest district of Uttarakhand is Chamoli district, which covers an area of 8030 sq. km, and Champawat is the smallest district of Uttarakhand, which covers an area of 1,781 sq. km.

1. Chamoli
Starting from Chamoli, it is known as the abode of God. Since there are many sacred temples for Hindus, one of those is located in Chamoli and is known as Badrinath. 2. Rudraprayag
Rudraprayag is one of the panch prayags. Here is the confluence of two rivers, Mandakani and Alkananda. One of the 12 Jyotrilinga Kedarnath temples is also located here. Kedarnath is also part of Char Dhaam. Many believe that the Pandavas constructed the Kedarnath temple to seek repentance after they killed their brothers and many others in the Battle of Mahabharat. It is one of the 13 districts of Uttarakhand along with that it is also the capital of Uttarakhand. Dehradun is famous for its bakery products and hill station. One must visit place from Dehradun is Mussoorie, which is just 30km away. Dehradun is known to have best schools and universities in Uttarakhand that’s why it is also called as the educational hub of Uttarakhand.

Haridwar is famous for spiritual reasons among the Indians. Here flows the Ganga, which is known as a holy river. People from across the country come here to take the holy dip in the Ganga River. 11. Pithoragarh
It a town with beautiful scenery. In winter, snow covers it, giving it a more beautiful appearance.
12. Udam Singh Nagar
Uttarakhand named it after a freedom fighter, calling it a district. It is also known as the ‘food bowl’ of Uttarakhand and ‘chawal ki Nagri’.
13. Champawat
Champawat is one the smallest district of Uttarakhand which covers 1781 sq. Km. It is a district which comes under the Kumaon region.
