CONSUMER RIGHTS AND ITS RESPONSIBILITIES
Consumer protection refers to the step taken to stop the unfair trade practices done by the sellers and the person producing the goods. The consumer protection laws are made to prevent frauds from business. Many protection laws are made to protect the consumer from frauds. so every consumer should be aware about its rights and responsibilities.
For example
Let us suppose that you buy some packets of chocolate biscuit. When you returned home you eat the biscuit and the taste was very bad because it has been expired. Then you went to the shopkeeper to return the biscuits but he didn’t return. So you can file a case against him that he gave you expired product.
RIGHTS OF THE CONSUMER: consumer rights and its responsibilities
1) Right to be informed
A consumer has the right to be informed. It’s the duty of the producer to give all the information related to the goods and services provided. Producer should tell everything about the product to consumer like about it’s quality, quantity, manufacturing date, expiry date etc. Thus, producer should tell everything about the product so the the consumer is not cheated and protect against unfair trade practices.
2) Right to consumer education
Right to consumer education means that consumer should have knowledge about it’s rights. Every consumer should be aware about it’s rights so that he/she can be safe from frauds of the producer. For educating the consumer about their rights government has started the schemes “upbhokta jagran” and “sanrakshan upbhokta ka”. everyone should know about consumer rights and its responsibilities.
3) Right to safety- consumer rights and its responsibilities
Right to safety means right to be protected against the fake goods and services provided by the producers. Before buying any consumer should see everything in the product like manufacturing date, expiry date, ISI mark, AG Mark etc. Consumer should carefully by the Electricals appliances and the food products. it is the main right of consumer and its responsibilities.
4) Right to seek Redressal
The right to seek Redressal means that the consumer has the right to get compensation against the unfair trade practices done by the seller. The seller can compensate by giving the product free of cost, changing the product etc.
5) Right to be heard- consumer rights ans its responsibilities
Right to be heard means that the complaint filed against the producer should be heard. Consumer can file a complaint against the frauds done by the producer. Consumer can file the complaint in the consumer court against the producer. The consumer court had to heard the complaint and strict action must be taken against the frauds.
CONSUMER’S RESPONSIBILITIES: consumer rights and its responsibilities
*consumer should be aware about their rights. Consumer should know each and everything about the product and information about the products.
*consumer should carefully buy the commodities by seeing it’s quality, quantity, manufacturing date, expiry date etc.
*consumer can file a case against the producer if any fraud happens and the complaint should be heard in court.
* consumer should know about the marks on the product like ISI Mark, AG mark, wool marks etc. These marks tells the quality of the products.
* consumer should always take receipts before buying any commodity. In case the product gets defect, receipt should be there to avoid the misunderstanding.
